As the trouble in USA finance markets gives the world a shake down, the Church journeys towards the end of it's year. This last portion of the church year sees us reflecting on gospel readings which speak of accountability. This is the season when many churches organise their stewardship programs. Stewardship programs invite the members of faith communities to reflect on how they use their resources.
At the Cathedral we are moving towards our commitment Sunday on November 16.
The financial crisis, the spectre of climate change and the theme of Stewardship each invite is to reflect on the power of choice. Analysis of the US
crisis is revealing that over the last few years legislators have chosen not to exercise oversight. Reminding us that choosing not to do anything can lead to disastrous consequences. Commentators are also making it clear that the choices legislators now make in response will shape the life of the world economy. Likewise, the choices our Government will make in response to the Garnuat report and other governments make in response to climate change will affect the way life develops on this planet.
The gospel readings for October and November remind us that we are significant and that the choices that we make matter. we each make a difference to the way the world develops.
