The Colony of Qld was proclaimed in 1859 from this balcony. Residence
of the 1st Governor until Government House was built.

Williams Bustard 1884 - 1973. Stained Glass artist with significant
collections in many Brisbane churches and paintings in the Qld Art
Gallery. St John's has many of his windows and designs (Tryptich
in Lady Chapel). 'Cartoon'
style cushions designed by David Binns.
Guidons
3 guidons relating to the Light Horse Regiments of WWI. Many young
farmers left horses behind in Australia, but rode both horses and
camels in WWI during campaigns in the Middle East.
Foundation
stone
Link with Australian Federation. Laid by the Duke of Cornwall &
York, 22 may 1901 - in memory of his grandmother, Queen Victoria
who had recently died.

Mensa (altar top) is made from the Holy Island of Iona, Scotland.
Link with ancient Celtic Christianity: St Columba & community
date to C6th. Bishop Webber, 3rd Bishop of Brisbane & founder
of this cathedral is buried here.

Church.

Medieval carving style, carved in Qld Silkwood by Qld father &
son during the late 20th Century. Figures tell stories of early
missionary bishops in the Sth Pacific & Australia. (N.B. Bishop
Patterson - martyred in Melanesia) and Anglo - Celtic Saints.

Tyrell in a window above the choir stalls
When the church in Brisbane was part of Newcastle, Bp Tyrell was
the Bishop. He is the ancestor of a family winery in the Hunter
Valley, Tyrell Wines.

in the honour given to flags. (N.B. different wars & battles

WWI
Windows in Southern Transept
Reflect a theme of Sacrifice & Service to others - images of
WWI nurses, soldiers, sailors & airmen interspersed with biblical
characters, Melchizedek, Abraham & Isaac. The fact that these
windows were placed here after WWI speaks of the community coming
to terms with the enormous loss of life in this war.
