Completion Fundraising

CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE

A major reason for celebration is the fact that by the end of 2006 all internal West End space is expected to be complete and in full use, leaving only the towers and spires to be built over the next two years.

It is also envisaged that during the next two years, the central bell tower will also be built, thus finally completing St John's Cathedral by 2009.

Whether as a resident in the greater Brisbane community or as a member of the Anglican community, we should all be excited to see this progress and to recognise the vision of the completed West End within our sight .

It will be a wonderful asset to the city, as well as an important focal point and inspiration for the work of the Diocese.

Just like the European cathedrals, St. John's welcomes many visitors each year. It is important to finish the building of this great cathedral to enable this enriching experience to continue for all future tourists.

It is consequently a challenging as well as rewarding experience to be associated with an important fundraising endeavour, and I am honoured to have the opportunity of being a part of it.

I commend the work which has been done before me by so many people associated with the fundraising: both those who have been involved in a leadership capacity, as well as the many supporters who have contributed in a very generous way.

It is a continuing challenge for us to give them the acknowledgment that they should have. No doubt they will feel rewarded by the satisfaction of being involved, and ultimately, to see the building completed.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE OLD BELL TOWER?

The temporary metal bell tower facing Ann St has been removed to make way for building the northern aisles and base of the Northern Tower. The bells have now been relocated to their final resting place in what will be the Central Tower over the Crossing. Supporters can dedicate a gift to the building of the Tower.
