October 17 – Grass Tree

For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected provided thanksgiving is given for it; it is made holy by the word of God and prayer. (1 Timothy 4:4)

In the bushlands the Grass Tree stands as a living testament to the enduring goodness of God’s creation. This remarkable plant, with its long, slender leaves and towering spikes of white flowers, has the ability to regenerate after the most intense bushfires. Just as the Grass Tree emerges from the ashes, renewed and resilient, we too can find hope and strength in the face of life’s challenges, knowing that God’s love and grace are ever-present.

The Grass Tree’s longevity, with some specimens living for over 600 years, reminds us of the timeless nature of God’s goodness. In a world of constant change and upheaval, it is comforting to know that the divine presence remains steadfast and unchanging. As we give thanks for the blessings in our lives, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant, we sanctify them through our gratitude and prayer. By recognising the inherent goodness in all of creation, we open ourselves to the transformative power of grace and find the courage to embrace the complexities of life with faith and trust.

Reflection:
1. How can I cultivate a deeper sense of gratitude for the goodness present in my life and the world around me?
2. In what ways can I draw strength and resilience from my faith when faced with challenges and adversity?

Prayer:
Creator of all, help me to recognise and give thanks for the goodness that permeates all of creation. May I find hope and renewal in your enduring love and grace.
